Read: 2 Corinthians 2:14-17
The sense of smell is so powerful and it can bring back memories from our childhood. The smell of flowers may take us to our village atmosphere. The smell of a new car may take us to the time when we bought our first car. For everyone, smell may be connected with some experience in his or her lives.
Paul the apostle reminded the Corinthian Christians that they were the aroma of Christ. 2 Cor. 2:15 says, “For we are to God the fragrance of Christ…” He was referring to Roman victory processions. The Romans made sure people knew they had been victorious in battle by burning incense on altars in the city. For the victors, the aroma was pleasing, but for the prisoners it meant death or slavery. As believers in Jesus, we are victorious soldiers. When the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached, it is a pleasing fragrance to God.
What is the aroma that we bring into a room? It is not something that can be bought in a bottle or can. When we spend a lot of time with a person, we begin to think and act like that person. Spending time with Jesus will help us spread the sweet-smelling aroma to those around us. When we walk with God, surely people will notice. Can you ask God to help you shape your thoughts and actions so that people will understand that you are with Jesus?
