Read: Ezekiel 34:25-31
The prophet Ezekiel offers the message of peace and future hope to a nation that was exiled and living far from their homeland. He described an extraordinary downpour – a shower of blessing (Ezek. 34:26). He spoke of a time when God would send blessings like rain to refresh His people. The Israelites would be safe from enemies. They will have enough food, relieved from slavery, and will not suffer shame (Ezek. 34:27-29). People would know that God was with them, and that they were His people (Ezek. 34:30). Ezek. 34:20-24 speaks of the shepherd who God would raise up to lead His people in the perfect age described in Ezek. 34:25-31.
God blesses His children even now (James 1:17). Sometimes blessings are abundant like rain, and sometimes they trickle in one by one. The good things we receive always come with a message from God: ‘I know your needs. You are mine, and I will care for you.’ Jesus calls Himself the Good Shepherd (John 10:11-18), and the true joy and peace described in Ezek. 34 are ours only in Jesus. 2 Cor. 9:8 says, “God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” What an abundance! For a child of God, grace is abundant, there is a sufficiency in all things, and an abundance for every good work.
