Read: 1 Samuel 17:31-52
The story of David and Goliath teaches believers that God is above any problem which they face. Our Goliath may be an overwhelming situation or a relational challenge. But our God is sovereign over everything, and He has the power to give us victory.
David knew from experiences that God was faithful and that He can be trusted in any situation. He experienced God’s miraculous help when the Lord gave him victory over a lion and a bear (1 Sam. 17:37). Our faith is strengthened when we read similar events from God’s Word, by remembering how God provided for us in our life, and by reading about His faithfulness in the lives of other people. If we are sure that God has helped us in the past, we can confidently rest in the fact that He will help us in the future also.
Trusting in the Lord gives us the courage to face the giants in our lives. We can respond to life’s challenges based on our relationship with Christ as our Saviour and Provider, on the fact that we are God’s children in Christ, and the promise of access to the heavenly Father through Christ. Instead of fixing our eyes on the obstacles, let us focus on the greatness of our God. Heb. 12:2 says, “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…” If we will trust and obey Him in everything, His Spirit will empower us for the challenges and He will give us the victory.
