Read: Ezekiel 18:25-32
The book of Ezekiel tells of God’s judgement on His disobedient people. God called them “a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me” (Ezek. 2:3) and “impudent and stubborn children” (Ezek. 2:4). The descriptions of their sin and the images of their coming punishment are dreadful. Yet in the darkest moments of God’s expression of grief over His people, His love shines through in His call for them to walk again on the path of life.
God says, “Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord God. “Therefore turn and live!” (Ezek. 18:31-32). God does not ask us to feel worse than we already do about our failures or to try harder to keep His commandments. Instead, He invites us to receive a fresh source of strength – ‘a new heart and a new spirit’ from Him (Ezek. 36:26-27).
If you are feeling that you have gone far away from God and that He is through with you, it is time to embrace the truth. Can you accept God’s invitation to “turn and live” today? It is by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. He will forgive you, and will give you a new life.
