Psalm 119:129 – “Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them.”
There are many who regard the Bible principally as the history of Israel. Some others hold that it has the soundest ethics ever articulated. Beyond all these, the Bible is much more. Its real theme is the story of God’s redemption of humanity in Jesus Christ. It is the story of a good God coming down to save us from the clutches of sin and death.
Those who read the Scriptures as magnificent literature, breathtaking poetry or history, and overlook the story of salvation, miss the Bible’s real meaning and message. The life and power of God’s Word is splendidly described as “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Heb. 4:12). God’s Word is even now living and has the power to transform the reader, and the blessings of the Lord are upon those who read and obey His Word.
