Read: John 10:22-29
The concept of eternal life might be a myth to some people. Such people believe in accumulating wealth and enjoying life to the fullest. Psalm 39:6 says, “Surely every man walks about like a shadow; surely they busy themselves in vain; he heaps up riches, and does not know who will gather them.” Hope in eternal life. This earthly life is temporary, but there is an eternal life. Trust in the Lord Jesus and believe in His name. The Bible clearly says, “Whoever believes in God’s only begotten son, will not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16; 1 John 5:13).
When the disciples and followers of Christ were persecuted for their faith, they looked forward to be in heaven with Jesus and have eternal life with Him. Jesus Himself said, “Narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matt. 7:14). The journey will be difficult with hardships, but ultimately it leads to eternal life and the surprising thing is that only few find it. When faced with persecutions, Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, that they did not lose heart. They knew that their light afflictions were temporary, which helped them to prepare for eternal life (2 Cor. 4:16-18).
Jesus promised, “He who overcomes [trials and persecutions] shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels” (Rev. 3:5). Jesus also said, “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand” (John 10:28). What a security we have in Jesus if we put our trust in Him!
If you do not believe in Jesus, put your trust in Him today. Obey Him and lead a life that is worthy for His purpose. Jesus has prepared a place for you, where there will be no more sorrow, death, crying or pain, where you can be in the presence of God, His Son Jesus and fellow believers for eternity (John 14:2; Rev. 21:4).
