Bible, the wisest book ever written has many chapters which deals with complex issues. Unlike other books, Bible should be read with a revelation knowledge and this is possible with the help of the Holy Spirit. I recently listened to a sermon on Hebrews 11 and being a Bible teacher myself, I had to graciously disagree on various points the preacher pointed out. In this blog, I attempt to throw light on some insights from the book of Hebrews, chapter 11 and also debunk some common myths about faith. Let me dive straight into it. Hebrews 11, nicknamed as Bible’s Hall of Fame, glorifies the life and achievements of heroes in the Bible. It starts off with a clear definition of faith, “Now faith is being of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see”. Another translation uses the word “assurance”, and “evidence”. If you add these two words it reads like this, “Now faith is the assurance of things we hope for and the evidence of things we do not see. God has placed in our hearts some dreams and desires. Now, we hope that one day we will see those dreams come to pass. Now, faith gives us assurance that one day we will see the plans of God unfold in our life. In other words without faith, Christians do not have hope. Without hope they don’t have anything to look forward in their life. Sadly, they begin to live life with this attitude, “Let’s live life as it comes”, “Life throws garbage on us, its alright to live like this”, “After all God is not interested in my problem, He has some better things to do”, “God is interested only in my soul not my marriage”. Their prayers, songs, churches, and homes become lifeless. The truth is God is mindful of us. If something bugs us, big or small, it bugs God. It can also be our pimple!!. Some think and preach that “God is not going to get you out of it.God is not going to heal you. God is not going to protect you. Don’t fool yourself by believing that some miracle is going to happen to you. God may perhaps fulfill your desires.” But they always ask you to pray (pray what??). But Bible does not teach that? It promises that a believer is a new creation and he can do all things through Christ who strengthens him. Let us see how faith works. Genesis 1:1 says “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” It does not say how he created. Hebrews 11:3 gives the answer for this. “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” We understand that “by faith” God created the universe. He created the seen with faith which is unseen. When God wanted to bring into being the natural, He used faith. But let’s not stop there. We see that God by faith gives a command. His words mixed with faith brought the entire universe into being. Now immediately some will say “Well brother, that is God. We are mere humans.” I have news for you, we are not mere humans, we are the children of the Most High God, bought with the eternal blood of Jesus Christ. We are created in His image and likeness. Some think that “image” means we have the nose, eyes, ears, like God (God is better looking than all humanity combined together). Of course Jesus had the physical body just as we have, but image and likeness means just as God the Father and God the Son were one, so are we one with Him. We have His characteristics in us. We are also like God as we are also creators, but on a minute scale. We can think, reason, plan and imagine that which is not and bring it into reality. In other ways if we follow what God says, act like He acts, think like He thinks, talk like he talks, then miracles will overtake us. So faith+God’s word will unleash miracles in our life. We will trample the devil under our feet. Next question,”Do I have faith?”. Bible says that the moment we are born again we were given a measure of faith. “Do I have the Word?”. The Bible is the Eternal Word of God. Word in flesh, Jesus is living in us. So with faith in Jesus when we speak God’s Word, miracles will happen. Situations will change. Mountains will move. Bible is a book which is fully loaded with miracles from Genesis to Revelation. You cannot separate miracles from the Bible. If you attempt to do so you will have nothing left in the Bible to read (except the front cover and index page). So let us start believing. All heaven is behind us.
