Read: Joshua 1:1-9
On the 1st of January every year, we wish each other “Happy New Year.” This has become just a usual wish for many people. But we need more than that. In today’s passage, we see Joshua in a situation where he needed to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. He had every reason to be afraid. He was aware of the dangers that lie ahead and he needed God’s encouragement. God said, “Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Josh. 1:9).
The New Year brings a lot of questions, doubts and fears. People are unsure about the economy, their marriages, children, families, careers, health, environment, climate, etc. Whatever may be in the future, God is telling us not to be afraid and not to be discouraged. All what God commands us is to obey Him in everything He says in His Word. If we do so, then God will make us prosperous and successful (Josh. 1:7-8). For a child of God, nothing is left to chance. Everything happens according to God’s perfect Will. God is in control and He promises to stay with us. He is telling us today that He will be with us wherever we are going. Jesus Himself told us, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:20). May God bless us with a blessed happy New Year.
