Read: 1 Corinthians 10:14-22
God’s commandment specifically teaches us not to make an idol or worship them. Ex. 20:4-5 says, “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me.” Sometimes out of ignorance, some believers tend to have lucky charms, laughing Buddha, wind chimes connected with Feng Shui, crystals, etc. to bring prosperity and fortune to their family, in spite of trusting in Jesus. Instead of bringing prosperity, due to lack of knowledge of God’s Word and ignorance, we bring a curse to ourselves and our generations by having such items in our houses.
Although idols have no life and power, the demonic spirits behind these statues have power and manifest themselves. As a result, instead of bringing harmony to our homes, these idols bring sickness, mental afflictions, negative feelings, poverty, disharmony between family members.
The Bible says, “Flee from idolatry” (1 Cor. 10:14). Again, “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (Gal. 5:16). Let us serve the one and only true God with all our heart, our mind, and soul as God has commanded us and not depart from it all the days of our life.
