Deuteronomy 8:3-“ So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.”
Gluttony can be defined as habitual greed or over eating. Over eating is a kind of idolatry, where food becomes an addiction. Some people tend to become obese because of overeating unhealthy foods like burger, pizzas, cakes etc., when they are sad or happy and not caring for their bodies. Some over eat for the sake entertaining their friends. Proverbs 23:21 says that “gluttony will lead to poverty.” Crave for the right kind of food, that is the spiritual food, which is the Word of God. The Bible says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord (Deuteronomy 8:3).”
Esau sold his birth right to Jacob for eating bread and lentil stew (Genesis 25:29-34). To sell one’s birth right is like to sell ones wedding ring to eat a sandwich. Birth right gave the title to family name and a chief portion of the inheritance to their future generations. Esau greed cost him his spiritual position, that God had intended for him.
The Israelites sinned against God when they grumbled for having to eat manna. They desired to eat meat. “They sinned even more against Him by rebelling against the Most High in the wilderness. And they tested God in their heart by asking for the food of their fancy. Yes, they spoke against God:They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?(Psalm 78:17-19).”
Take care of your body, by consuming the right food and do not over eat. “You are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are” (1 Corinthians 3:16-17). “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1). By consuming, the Word of God you will be spiritually nourished. If you eating the Living Bread (Word of God), you will live forever with Jesus (John 6:51).
