Matthew 11:28-“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
As human beings we need at least 7 hours of sleep to be refreshed to begin our next day. Rest is so important for us to function properly. If rest is not properly taken, it could affect our physical and mental well-being. God set us an example of taking rest. He rested on the seventh day after His work of creation (Genesis 2:2). When Jesus and His disciples were working for the expansion of God’s kingdom, they were surrounded by people who came for healing and deliverance from illness, demon possession etc. Jesus said to His disciples “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat (Mark 6:31).
God promised the Israelites “And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest” (Exodus 33:14). God promised to give the Israelites rest from suffering for many years of torture under Pharaoh’s rule. God gave the people rest while they journeyed through the wilderness. They did not have to physically toil for food, as God provided them with Manna from heaven.
If you are emotionally and physically tired of repeatedly trying and facing failures, you can go to Jesus for rest. Jesus calls all those who labor and are heavy laden. He has promised to give rest to those who come to Him. He is always gentle and lowly in heart. His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30). He will always carry your burden for you. Are you willing to put your burdens on Jesus? He will surely give rest to your soul.
