Psalms 55:22 – Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you.
Everyone has burdens of their own, but a child of God should distinguish between the burden-bearing that is right and the burden-bearing that is wrong. We should never bear the burden of sin or of guilt, but there are burdens placed on us by God which He does not intend to lift off. He wants us to roll them back on Him. If we initiate a work for God and get out of touch with Him, the sense of responsibility and its weight will be tremendously crushing. But if we roll back on God that which He has put upon us, He takes away that weight by bringing in the realization of Himself.
Many of God’s children have gone out with strong determination and good courage, but with no intimate fellowship with Jesus Christ. Eventually they are crushed. They do not know what to do with their burden. God expects us that we cast our burden on Him (a command), and it is His promise that He shall sustain us (a surety).
Think about how God sustained Daniel in the lion’s den, Elijah in the wilderness, Jesus in the garden, Paul with his thorn in the flesh. God will sustain you also provided you trust in Him and cast yourself upon Him. Do not fling your burden off, but put it over on Him and yourself with it, and the burden is lightened by the sense of companionship.
