Read: 1 Samuel 3
During the Second World War, the radio was used for broadcasting news to the outside world from war zone countries. People stayed tuned to their radios expecting to hear the news of victory or defeat from these war stricken areas. Radios were precious to them. On the contrary, in this busy generation, people tend to be more tuned to their smartphones than have quiet time with God. We need to be tuned to God by reading God’s Word. He loves having fellowship with His children. Only God’s children can genuinely hear His voice. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, I know them and they follow me” (John 10:27). Only His children can hear His voice and follow Him. Many prophets and holy men were tuned to God. God revealed Himself to them to warn or to proclaim His message to His people.
When Samuel was a boy and staying in the Jerusalem temple (house of the Lord) along with Eli, He heard someone calling him. It was God who called Samuel thrice to warn him about Eli’s children. God could have called Eli directly, but chose to communicate with Samuel. As Samuel grew older, he became a prophet. God spoke to him to anoint a new king for Israel. Initially King Saul was selected. Later, King David was anointed as the king of Israel by Samuel as per God’s directions, when Saul sinned.
God wants us to listen to Him and be obedient to His commands. He wants us to be tuned to Him all the time to make the right decisions in life and to walk away from evil. God would warn us through the Holy Spirit when we are treading on dangerous ground. He assures us from His Word that He will be there for us always. Are you willing to be tuned to hear God’s voice?
