Read: John 14:15-24
It is easy to say, “Lord, I love you.” But it is a hard struggle to be obedient to Him at all times. Actions always speak louder than words. We can say that we love God but that love is made evident through our actions, how we are obedient to Him in our daily walk. Following His instructions is so important and crucial that Jesus stressed the point three times in John 14:15, 21, 23. The disciples were not hearing this concept for the first time either. They would have been familiar with the scriptural connection between love and obedience (Neh. 1:5; Dan. 9:4). God has always emphasised that the way to show our love and devotion is by doing what He says (Deut. 8:11; 10:12; 13:3-4). For Him, our actions are more important than our play with words.
The Lord told Joshua to meditate on Scripture day and night (Josh. 1:8) and He urges to obey everything that is written in it. The Lord says that only then will Joshua be prosperous and successful. Can we check ourselves how obedient we are to the Lord? Are we doing only lip-service and not obeying? Remember what the Lord said in 1 Sam. 15:22, “To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.” How much we love the Lord is splendidly displayed in the way how we obey Him, not only in the big things but also in the small insignificant things of daily life. How is your love for Him? Are you zealous in obeying all what He says as much as you say that you love Him? Commit yourself to obeying Him in everything no matter what. And ask Him to help you by the strength of His Spirit.
