GENESIS 39:6-12 “Thus he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.” But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be with her. But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside, 12 that she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.” (NKJV)
Joseph was in a very sticky and tempting situation. Circumstances were nowhere close to the realization of his dreams. It wasn’t just happening for him, things were just not falling in place. Moreover, now he is the object of interest for Potipher’s wife, Joseph was stuck in between an opportunity any slave would desire and faithfulness to God and His promise for his life.
Joseph could have just said to himself, “maybe I got it all wrong, maybe the dreams weren’t meant to come true, let me just enjoy the moment when opportunity is knocking at my door.” He could have just let go of his God given dreams and given into the temptation. Potipher wasn’t seeing him, he would have continued to be Potipher’s favourite and now also his wife’s favourite.
But Joseph didn’t give in or give up, he knew that his God given dreams were bigger, better and beautiful than Potipher’s wife. He wouldn’t trade his dreams for her. Never trade your God given dreams for something inferior or for any other alternative because that alternative is never going to get you to a position of fulfilment of the God given dreams for your life.
The alternative will keep you as a slave in Potipher’s house and in Potipher’s wife’s bed till Potipher finds a better manager and his wife a better lover. What’s going to get you into the palace is God and your God given dream, so, never trade it for Potipher’s wife when the going gets tough or no matter how tempting the situation is because it’s just not worth it, nothing is better than God’s plans for our life.
