GENESIS 37:28 “Then Midianite traders passed by; so the brothers pulled Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. And they took Joseph to Egypt.” (NKJV)
GENESIS 39:1 “Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there.” (NKJV)
GENESIS 39:17-20 “Then she spoke to him with words like these, saying, “The Hebrew servant whom you brought to us came in to me to mock me; so it happened, as I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me and fled outside. So it was, when his master heard the words which his wife spoke to him, saying, “Your servant did to me after this manner,” that his anger was aroused. Then Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison.”
Our God given dreams and God’s plans for our life doesn’t depend on our circumstances. It depends on God, and He is not bound by any circumstances of our life. Joseph’s situation was no where closer to the fulfilment of his dreams. He was in the pit, from the pit into slavery, from slavery to false accusations, from false accusations into the prison. No matter what situation he was in, Joseph never allowed his circumstances to re-define his God given dream.
Joseph means ‘God adds’, now for God to add, He has to first make empty of all that was in there at the first place. Joseph being his father’s favourite wasn’t going to get him into a place where God’s plans would unfold. So, he had to be removed from the comfort zone of his father’s house and made empty for God to add and lead him in the accomplishment of God’s plans.
Being removed from under the wings of his father and pushed into slavery, false accusations and prison no way ended up to be destructive for Joseph, but they were stepping stones to the fulfilment of God’s plan for his life. That’s why it is said in Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (NKJV)
Our present circumstances may not seem to aid in accomplishing God’s plans for our life but we can be sure that God will accomplish it. We should not lose heart looking at our circumstances; always remember our God is bigger than any given situation of our life. Have our eyes fixed on God and His promises for our life; never allow our circumstances to redefine God given dreams.
