Mathew 7:11 – “So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to you children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him” (NLT)
Here in the sermon on the mount teaching session of Jesus He talks about the importance of prayer and also gives us an hint about God’s gracious character of giving. By drawing a comparison between earthy fathers to the Heavenly Father (God), He drives home the fact that if an imperfect and sinful earthy father would do the best for his children how much more will the perfect and holy Heavenly Father do for His children, He will surely give His children the best and His best is a million times better than the best of earthly fathers.
I would like to point out two points here –
1. You need to believe that God wants to bless us with good things, many of us are taught to think that God is not interesting in blessing us, He is only concerned with our spiritual life. This is not true, God is concerned with every part of our life, even every strand of our hair is covered with His concern and protection. His concern is much more than an earthly father and He will do all what He has to do to establish us in this life He gave us.
2. He loves it when we ask Him. Our Heavenly Father knows what we need even before we ask Him but He rejoices when we take the privilege to ask Him. We are His children and being His children we have the right and privilege to walk to Him at any time without fear or shame or doubt and ask Him, “Daddy, can you give me this please?”. He loves it when we ask Him with expectation and He enjoys giving us just like a father enjoys giving his child gifts.
