Num. 13:30 – “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”
A mobile phone company field agent was sent to a remote part of the country. When he arrived, he was surprised to see that no one was using a mobile phone. So he sent the following information back to the company, “No prospect of sales. People do not use mobile phones here.” Later the company sent another field agent to the same place. He sent the following information back, “Great market potential! People do not use mobile phones here!”
In our Scripture passage for today, were Joshua and Caleb just saying an optimistic statement? Didn’t the other 10 spies have a more accurate picture of the situation? All of them saw the land of Canaan as a land flowing with milk and honey. The 10 spies were not lying when they said that there were huge problems in conquering that land. Even though the facts were the same, how could two opinions surface? The answer is simple. The majority view did not take God into the equation, and that resulted in undefeatable obstacles. However, the minority view included God, and that resulted in limitless prospect.
Are you discouraged by difficulties and obstacles? Looking at your obstacles, do you feel small like how the 10 spies felt? Wait. Listen to what Joshua says in Num. 14:8-9, “If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us … Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear …, the Lord is with us.” If God delights in us and if we trust in Him, we too can take on huge obstacles and problems.
