JUDGES 6:25-27 “That same night the Lord said to him, “Take the second bull from your father’s herd, the one seven years old. Tear down your father’s altar to Baal and cut down the Asherah pole beside it. Then build a proper kind of altar to the Lord your God on the top of this height. Using the wood of the Asherah pole that you cut down, offer the second bull as a burnt offering.” (NIV)
Before Gideon could march the army into battle there was a task that he had to complete, he had to tear down the altar of Baal and the pole of Asherah and in its place build an altar to the true living God. This is very significant because the altar of Baal and the image of Asherah were symbols of false alternatives to the true living God.
It is very important for us to know that for God’s work in our life to reach its complete potential God needs to be in the driver’s seat of our life, He needs to be the number one priority. God cannot and will not accept an alternate for Him. Nothing should take the place of God in our lives. Some of us might say, “I am a born again believer, I don’t worship another god, there is no alternative for God in my life”. It is true that we might not worship another god, but is God number one in our live? What occupies the number one priority in our lives? Is it our family? Is it our spouses? Is it our children? Is it our jobs? Is it our friends? Is it our boyfriend or girlfriend? Or is it God? This is a question that each of us needs to answer.
God wants to be in the number one position of our lives and only He deserves to be the number one. Don’t push Him to the number two position. Because when He is the utmost priority in our lives every other relationship will reach its maximum potential.
