Psalm 37:23-24 – “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand.”
Imagine having to go to a new place and not know anyone. The experience can be a bit scary when you are faced with uncertainties. But God is all-knowing, He knows about the struggles you are facing and arranges people for your aid. Nehemiah was the cupbearer of King Artaxerxes’ court. Nehemiah and other Jews were brought to Babylon at the time of captivity, while the city of Jerusalem and their temple was burnt down. Nehemiah came to know that the walls of Jerusalem were broken down and its gates were burnt with fire. He wept, mourned, fasted and prayed for many days asking God to help him (Neh. 1). King Artaxerxes took notice of Nehemiah’s grief-stricken face and asked him the reason. He told the king that Jerusalem lied in waste and its gates were burnt with fire (Neh. 2). The king asked Nehemiah what his request was. Nehemiah asked for permit letters from the king to the governors to cross their region till he reached Jerusalem and also a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest to grant him the timber to rebuild the walls of the Jerusalem temple.
God knew Nehemiah’s heart and His hand was upon Nehemiah. God made him as an instrument to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem in just 52 days. God also arranged people in Jerusalem to his aid. Although there were people to discourage and frustrate the plans of rebuilding the wall, God helped him throughout the endeavour. The psalmist says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand” (Ps. 37:23-24).
Are you waiting to see God’s mighty hand in everything you do? God arranges people for your aid. Moses had a stuttering problem, but God arranged Aaron to his aid to help him deliver the Israelites from the land of Egypt. When your focus is on God’s purposes for your life, and prepare your heart with prayer, fasting, and have a repentant heart, God will make situations favourable for you, as He did for Nehemiah.
