1 JOHN 4:16 “We know how much God loves us and we have put our trust in His love.”
One common question that most wives ask their husbands is “Do you love me?” This is a question which can blow the fuse when asked to a husband who comes home exhausted after a long day of work. The husband might say to his wife in his thoughts (better say it in thoughts and not directly to the wife!) “Woman, what in the world are you thinking? I work so hard to provide for you and the kids and you still don’t realise that I love you. I never take a second look at any other woman but you and you still don’t realise that I love you. I come back home to you every night and yet you still don’t realise that I love you. How in the world can I ever prove my love for you and what will make you stop asking me that silly question again?
But what most of the time we husbands fail to realise is that the reason for this question is not because wives doubt our love for them but all what they want is to hear us tell them “Yes! My dear, I do love and always will”. They want to hear it from our mouth and then they would tell themselves “My husband loves me”.
This is important for a wife because her security as a wife doesn’t lie in knowing how much she loves her husband but it lies in knowing, believing, and trusting in the husband’s love for her. Because when she knows that her husband loves her then she will also know that no matter what her husband will always be there for her.
It is the same principle with God’s love for us. Our security doesn’t lie in knowing how much we love God but it lies in knowing and trusting how much He loves us. Let’s not boast about our love for God because we can never love Him enough, let’s boast about His love for us. Our love can fail but God’s love never fails.
