JOB 1:12-19 “And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord. Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house; and a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, when the Sabeans raided them and took them away—indeed they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!” While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell you!” While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!” While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, and suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
JOB 42: 12-13 Now the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys. He also had seven sons and three daughters.
The life of Job is a reminder that God is in total control of our lives. Nothing will happen in our lives without the knowledge and permission of God. Also, it is important for us to know that God is a giver of goodness and good things (remember the scripture which says – will a father give a stone when his son asks for bread?), He doesn’t give His children bad or sorrowful things. Yes, God permits certain negative and sorrowful events to happen in our lives like He allowed in Job’s life but it is also important to us to know that God is in control and will not let anything happen that will completely destroy us, God permitted Satan to wreck havoc in Job’s life but also commanded him to spare Job’s life.
No matter what storm we go through in life, we can be sure that God is in absolute control, that’s why it’s said in Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” We can also be sure that the storms are not going to last forever, there will surely come a time when God will wipe away every tear from our cheeks and restore everything that was taken from us and much more just like He restored everything to Job, not only did He restore everything to Job but also gave more than his beginning. If he can do that for Job, He can do it for us too.
