John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
As Good Friday is being celebrated around the world, it is a time to focus on God’s great love that He has for humanity. Are you willing to sacrifice your child or just give away your child without any hesitation? The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). God doesn’t want anyone to perish in eternal fire, but to come to repentance (2 Pet. 3:9).
By faith, Abraham was willing to sacrifice his promised son Isaac. He trusted that God would bring Isaac back to life (Heb. 11:19). He was obedient to God’s command. God asks us the same. Are you willing to nail yourself on the cross of Calvary? The rich young man wanted to follow Jesus. He thought that he had the qualifications to follow Jesus, because he followed the commandments carefully. The Bible says, “Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions” (Matt. 19:21-22). Jesus was pointing to him the loyalty of his heart. That young man lacked one thing, he was not willing to depart from his riches. He loved his riches more than God, and thereby violated the First commandment itself (Ex. 20:3).
Are you willing to deny yourself, take up the cross and follow Jesus? Your earthly possessions will perish. As you age, your health will decline. You will be more dependent on others. The only thing that would stand forever is your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, who is always the same, yesterday, today, and forever. God gave us the gift of salvation through His son Jesus. He does not want anyone to perish, but to come to repentance in order to receive eternal life. Would you accept His invitation today?
