Rom. 8:28 – “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
A man was going up a mountain when he noticed a beautiful flower. He admired its beauty and enjoyed its fragrance. He wondered how the plant could produce such a beautiful flower in such a hostile place, where there was no fertile soil. He pulled up the plant by its roots and brought it to ground level and planted it in good soil. The flower wilted and the plant began to die. The man’s face became sad at the sight of the drooping flower. He went back and asked an old woman whom he found there why the plant died. She replied, “Oh, this plant will grow only here. It needs the cold and dryness which are present only at the top of the mountain.”
Often we murmur and grumble because of the situations into which God, in His sovereign will, has placed us. We fail to realise that He is in fact using the pressures, trials, and difficulties unique to our situation to bring us to a new degree of spiritual maturity. Once we recognise that contentment comes by accepting what God has given us, we will be much happier.
God knows everything about us, and He is making all things work together for our good. The “hostile environment” where God has placed us is just what we need. Discontentment can be an enemy to our spiritual growth. So let us be content allowing God to bring us to maturity.
