Psalm 103:2 – “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.”
The year 2016 has come to an end. Many events happened. God blessed you in remarkable ways. It is good to think, acknowledge and take time in counting all the blessings God has given you last year. God never forgets His people. He knows their needs. Let us be humble and come to His throne of grace with thanksgiving. Be thankful for the food, family members, children, good health, fresh air, water, God’s protection and provision. “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it unto the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:31). You are fortunate to enjoy all these things when many people around the globe are suffering due to war or natural disasters. Be grateful that God watches over you and keeps you from all harm (Ps. 121:7).
Job was blessed with children and owned much oxen, donkey, camels, and a large number of servants. “He was the greatest man among all the people of the East” (Job 1:2-3). When Job lost his children, cattle and servants, he fell down to the ground in worship and said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised” (Job 1:20). God blessed Job in the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part with abundant wealth, ten children and a large number of cattle (Job 42:12). Even when you go through a difficult situation, it is with God’s knowledge. “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Pet. 3:9).
For the coming year, let us take the resolution to be content always (Phil. 4:11). Let us rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks to God continually in all circumstances (1 Thess. 5:16-18). God has a plan for you, He has plans to prosper you, and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future (Jer. 29:11).
