1 CORINTHIANS 1:31 “So that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” (ESV)
The Bible talks about two types of boasting – wrong boasting and right boasting.
Wrong boasting is like, “Oh, look at me how great I am, how wonderful I am, how good I am, come on everybody praise me!”
Right boasting is like, “Oh, look at Jesus, how great He is, how wonderful He is, how good He is, come on everybody praise Him!”
Wrong boasting is when we boast about ourselves, our efforts, our achievements, our capabilities, our goodness…etc. That’s not the boasting we are supposed to do, we are to boast about God and Jesus.
Many a times we like to boast about how much we love God and all the sacrifices we made for following Jesus. We might feel we need to love God more and more and more and try doing that on our own efforts and each time we try we fail miserably. Rather than trying to love God more and more based on our efforts let us keep our eyes fixed on God’s love for us, for it is only Him who can love us more and more and more and still never stop loving us.
Let us not boast about our love for God but let us boast about His love for us and rest in the security of His love. Peter boasted about his love for Jesus but he failed when he denied Christ whereas John boasted about Jesus’ love for him (he called himself the disciple Jesus loved the most) and he was the only apostle at the feet of the cross when Jesus was crucified.
People who trust and boast in their love for God will fail but those who trust and boast in God’s love for them will endure and emerge victorious.
