14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Many Christians struggle with various addictions. Some of those addictive habits may be known to their family and friends. Some may not be known by anyone else, and such addictions may be very private. They know that such addictions are wrong and harmful to their mind and body, but they are unable to stop. It may be a daily battle. As believers in Christ Jesus, we can always turn to God for help. Instead of relying on our own efforts to change, we can begin to completely depend on God for His grace and power when we face temptations.
Jesus was tempted also, just as we are (Mark 1:13). He understands what we are feeling and sympathizes with our weaknesses (Heb. 4:15). The greatest confidence and assurance for a believer is that we can “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb. 4:16). His help may come directly through His Holy Spirit, or people, or changes in circumstances.
God will not allow you to bear anything beyond what you are able. 1 Cor. 10:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” What an assurance!!! He always makes a way out. What is the battle that you are facing today? What temptation is trying to trip you down? Know that God loves you so much, and He is faithful to come to your assistance provided you ask Him. Will you do that today?
